Bids open for major wheelchair fencing competitions

27/06/2022

The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing has opened the bid process for competitions for 2023-2025, including regional and World Championships.

Organisers can apply to host these major events as well as stops on the World Cup circuit for the coming three years.

In 2024, the same year as the next Paralympic Games in Paris, France, regional Championships in Europe, Asia and the Americas are up for grabs. These events will be amongst the last chances athletes have to qualify for the Paralympics.

The 2025 World Championships – the most important on the sport’s calendar outside of the Paralympic Games – will follow the next edition taking place in Terni, Italy, in 2023.

Those bidding to host a competition are asked to describe how they plan to create the perfect stage for athletes to reach their best. This includes budgeting, transport, accommodation, media and broadcast, anti-doping and classification.

Bid documents and instructions for applying to host has been sent to all IWAS Wheelchair Fencing countries, and can also be found at the sport’s website. The deadline for applications is 4 August 2022.
