Day Three @ IWAS U17/U23 Wheelchair Fencing World Championships

The final between Anna Klimenkova and Alena Evdokimova, (RUS) was fast and furious, with both team-mate fencers fighting for the gold medal.
The women’s U23 epee competition opened the events for day three at the IWAS U17 & U23 Wheelchair Fencing World Championships.
Competitors from 4 countries took part with some fierce fighting in the pool round resulting in a strong position for Russia and Georgia.
The semi-final round between Nino Tibashvili (GEO) and Anna Klimenkova (RUS) gave a tactical demonstration with both fencers taking their time looking for opportunities. The match went to a final one minute last period with priority to the Russian fencer, who finally won the match with priority at 12-12 score.

U23 Mens Foil.
Day 3 finished with an exciting mens foil competition. 17 fencers including some who took part in the U17 competition started the pool rounds. This was a great chance for new fencers to compete against their more experienced counterparts and to gain some new ideas for the future.
The DE’s saw the more experienced fencers push forwards and the semi-finals had Russia, Turkey and Italy fencing for a place in the finals. Emanuele Lambertini (ITA) and Maxim Shaburov (RUS) finally won through to go head to head in the final. Shaburov proved to be the stronger of the two on this occassion winning 15-10 in the second period after the Italian had fought back after a change of weapon.
