Wheelchair Fencing events and slots have increased for female fencers from Rio 2016 with the addition of Sabre Cat A & B.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has confirmed the wheelchair fencing athlete slots and events for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

In total there will be 16 medal events made up of eight men’s events and eight women’s events with 96 athlete slots (48 men and 48 women).

Over all sports, at least 1,756 slots have been allocated for female athletes, the most ever, which represents a 17 per cent increase in the number of women that took part in London 2012.

The new events selected for the wheelchair fencing competition programme are Women’s Sabre Category A and Sabre Category B.

Male athletes will see four less athlete slots compared to the allocation of Rio 2016.
