Host City Announced for IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Championships 2017

The competition will be hosted from 6 - 13 November 2017 in the city of Rome, Italy.

IWAS is delighted to announce that the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Championships 2017 will be hosted in the city of  Rome, Italy from 6 to 12 November 2017.

The highly anticipated World Championships will see the world’s best wheelchair fencers descend on the Italian city on 6 November ready for six days of hard fought competition in the following events;

—     Epee female/male (Category A, B & C)

—     Foil female/male (Category A, B & C)

—     Sabre female/male (Category A & B)

—     Epee, Foil & Sabre female/male team

Competing teams will be accommodated in the 5* facilities of the Hilton Rome while the 2,500 sqm of event space will host the six days of competition. The venue is conveniently located next to the Leonardo Da Vinci international airport and 30km from central Rome.

IWAS Wheelchair Fencing Chairman, Pal Szekeres said, ‘1960 was the last time an international wheelchair fencing event was held in Rome so it is a great time to return to this ancient city. Italy is a leading nation in both fencing and wheelchair fencing, and the Italian Fencing Federation have made huge strides in the development of our sport.’
