Russian fencers will try to upset the dominance of Italy's Beatric Vio in Terni, Italy, at the 2018 IWAS Wheelchair Fencing European Championships.

With just a few days to go until the 2018 (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing European Championships get underway in Terni, Italy, on 17 September, excitement is building.

The region’s best fencers will line-up in one of the last major competitions before the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

A series of Paralympic, world and regional medallists and champions are expected to compete.

Women’s foil category B

Italy’s 21-year-old superstar and Paralympic champion Beatrice ‘Bebe’ Vio will be going for her third consecutive European gold in this event in Terni.

Vio has already been unstoppable in 2018 with wins from three World Cups in Hungary, Poland and Italy.

However the other podium finishers from Vio’s last European gold are competing once again at the Euros.

Russian teammates Irina Mishurova and Viktoria Boykova the respective silver and bronze medallists, will try once again to end Vio’s dominance.

Boykova and Mishurova are also the second and third place finishers respectively from the 2017 World Championships. The quad will be joined by Belarusian Alesia Makrytskaya who rounded off the Worlds podium last year in Rome, Italy.

The 2018 IWAS Wheelchair Fencing European Championships run from 18-23 September.
