Yee, who is also the Asian champion in the weapon, topped the podium after winning her final against Ukraine’s World Championships bronze medallist Nataliia Morkvych.

The last time Yee won gold at an International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing World Cup was in Warsaw, Poland, in July 2018.

Russia’s Elena Evdokimova claimed bronze as well as Hungary’s Worlds silver medallist Eva Andreja Hajmasi.

In the women’s foil category B, Thailand’s Saysunee Jana delivered a shock to top the World Cup podium for the first time since 2012.

The Thai fencer unseated Italy’s world and Paralympic champion Beatrice Vio, beating her in a close semi-final match.

Jana then overcame Russia’s Viktoria Boykova for gold.

Bronze went to Brazil’s Monica Santos as well as Vio, who still managed a top three finish.

In the men’s sabre category B, Poland’s European champion and Worlds bronze medallist Adrian Castro showed his calibre once again.

Castro faced a tough fight with Greek Paralympic silver medallist Panagiotis Triantafyllou. However it was Castro who just had the edge, winning 15-11.

Russia’s world champion Alexander Kurzin took bronze after being knocked out of gold medal contention by Triantafyllou. Hungary’s Istvan Tarjanyi also collected third place.

British world title holder Piers Gilliver claimed his latest win in the men’s epee category A.

Russia’s Maxim Shaburov was his opponent in the final, himself the reigning European champion.

But Gilliver was once again the victor in his favourite weapon.

Germany’s Maurice Schmidt and Russia’s Artur Yusopov shared third place on the podium.

The 2020 IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup continues in Eger until Sunday (16 February) when the women’s foil and men’s sabre team events will conclude competition.
